Shivaji Bhonsale, also known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, was an Indian warrior king and a member of the Bhonsle Maratha clan. He was born on February 19, 1630, in the hill-fort of Shivneri, near the city of Junnar in Pune district, Maharashtra, India. Shivaji Maharaj founded the Maratha Empire in 1674 and was crowned as the Chhatrapati (emperor) of the Maratha Empire.
